"one time, i ate a whole ham..."

i have a vivid childhood memory of sitting in the living room of my grandpa and grandma meacham's house with my brother. lance was sitting on grandpa's lap in the mustard colored velvet plush chair in the southeast corner. i was sitting on the couch. we were just hanging out, enjoying time with grandpa reid. grandpa had a bit of a belly. i recall lance looking up at him and innocently asking, "grandpa, why is your belly so big." without skipping a beat and with a smile on his face, grandpa said, "well lance, one time, i ate a whole ham." that was all the answer lance needed to carry on with his day. as i have grown older, the memory of a loving grandfather who wasn't offended by the observation by his grandson that his belly was a bit on the round side, has been so endearing to me. i miss my grandpa reid, and wish he could see me and my round belly. these days, i'm looking like i ate a whole ham too!
