uncle richard

minnie couldn't get enough of uncle richard's beard.

toys

minnie hasn't been very interested in her toys lately.
she would much rather spend hours with a piece of paper,
suck on a zipper, or lick the wheel of the stroller.
we are more willing to let her play with paper than zippers and stroller wheels.
oh, she also likes to make her way over to my feet and either
start sucking on my toe or the top of my flip flop.
we aren't sure where these fascinations come from.
it's kind of cute, but we have to be really careful.

i was delighted to see that she was excited about a few of her toys the other day.
i turned to look at her and saw this lovely picture:

i promise this was not staged.

this was also a cute little scene that i caught her in.
she was discovering the little piggy that her daddy bought for her
when i was pregnant with her.

i wonder if there is a toy manufacturer who could make a safe paper and zipper toy for babies.
if other babies are as excited about these items as minnie, they'd make millions.

daddy's little girl

i love watching christian and minnie.
christian is a natural with kids.
he always has been.
is it possible to be more than a natural?
if so, that is what he is with our little minnie mae.
he loves her so much.
his face lights up with he sees her, as does her's when she sees him.
i love it.
minnie isn't much of a cuddler.
she never has been.
sometimes we try and coach her along in cuddling.
it usually fails.
last sunday, when she woke up from a nap she cuddled
with her daddy for about 5 seconds.
i didn't catch the original cuddle on camera.
however, she appeased us and recreated it for about 3 seconds.
long enough for me to get a couple of shots.
christian, nana, papa and i were all elated.
turns out cuddling is a milestone at our house.

i don't think we will be quite as excited when she starts cuddling with boys she is dating.
but for now, we are going to continue to try to get her to cuddle with us.

solids

minnie started eating solids.
it took us a little longer than some to do this.
i was a little slow.
i was a little nervous to start feeding her real food.
nursing was a bit of a challenge in the beginning, so
i think i had in my head that solids would be too.
once i got over the mental challenge of it, we both did just fin.
minnie was excited and a little perplexed during her first "solid" meal.
we've only been at it for a little over a week.
during that time frame we've found that:
runny rice cereal mixed with breast milk is good
yellow squash is tolerable
and
sweet potatoes are delightful.

next weeks menu includes carrrots, peas and avocados.
we'll see what the reviews are at the end of the week.

6 months

minnie was so excited to turn 6 months old!

to celebrate, i went biking

and we all went fishing

as you can tell by minnie's expressions,
it was a lovely day!

cache county fair

summer isn't summer without the cache county fair.
it is small town america at it's finest.
during the fair christian shared his two new life goals with me:
1) learn to make pickles and enter them in the fair.
2) join a mounted posse

while we were at the rodeo,
and minnie was home with nana and papa,
we decided that we would let her participate in mutton bustin' if she wants to.

as of late...

minnie has been striking some awesome poses,

holding things with her feet,

making some awesome messes,

and following in her daddy's footsteps.

*disclaimer:  she hasn't really been drinking "prune juice", as christian calls it.
however, she LOVED the bottle.  she got pretty upset when we took it away from her.

sabey family reunion

we spent some time in colorado this summer.
first up, we had the sabey family reunion.
it was in winter park.
all mel and sandy's grandkid's were there.
we have everyone but athena pictured below.
she wasn't having anything to do with the camera.

sandy watched minnie while christian went back to utah to take his prelim tests and i attended a work event.
timing couldn't have worked out better.  minnie had so much fun with her grandma!

christian got together with a few of his high school wrestling buddies.
it was fun to hear them tell stories of the "good old days".
