new developments

somebody loves to hold her toes.

that same somebody rolled from her
back to her tummy for the first time today.

little things are big things when you have a baby.
think about it.

big blue eyes

minnie scratched herself on the forehead.
i learned that i need to give her manicures more often.

and, how can you resist that face?

vintage duds

my mom pulled out some of my baby outfits the other day.
we've been dressing minnie in the vintage outfits.

her face says it all.
she likes this outfit.

this little sweater zips up in the back.
the zipper zips from the top of the hood,
all the way down her back.
it is brilliant.
they just don't make clothes like they used to.

"we" finished "our" first year of school

i always used to think it was weird when a husband was going to school,
and the wife would say "we" are going to school.
i would judge them, okay.  i'm a judger.
oddly enough, over the past year, i have found myself saying "we" are going to school.
turns out WE are going to school.
christian is going to classes, writing papers, staying up late to work on homework.
but, i've found myself feeling anxious when he has a big assignment or a presentation.
i'm invested in this whole school gig, just like christian is.
we work on it together, just in different ways.
i now understand the phrase "we are going to school".
christian, minnie and i are all going to school.
one year down, three more to go.

father's day & mother's day

this years father's day and mother's day were lovely.
(i know it was awhile back...slow to the punch.  you can judge.)
first mother's day i've been a mom.
first father's day christian has been a dad.
we sometimes talk about how we are a little slow at things.
we got married later than a lot of people we know.
we started a family a little later than most people we know.
"we" are going to school a little later.
turns out, it doesn't really matter.
it was worth the wait.
and, while we are exhausted, we are really enjoying this phase of life.
we love being minnie's mom and dad.
see some of the things we love below.

somebody loves dr. seuss.
particularly fox in socks.

somebody loves sleeping.
sometimes she doesn't like sleeping at night.
so daddy needs a nap during the day.

somebody loves the water.
first time swimming.
i think we've got ourselves a little fish.

pretty lil' head

britta told katie that minnie has a pretty head.
i think britta is right.

i love when minnie used to scrunch her little legs up and stick her buns out when we would get her up after a nap, or just when she was tired.  she doesn't really do this anymore and i miss it.

those BIG eyes and that cute little mouth

christian's friend gave him a bunch of rootbeer for his birthday.  the kind i am holding is called "gale's rootbeer", so christian gave it to me.  it had an interesting blend of cinnamon and ginger.  different and delightful.  mostly i just love minnie's cute little face in this picture.

christian decided to put minnie's little bummies on her head.

i set her taggie blanket on her tummy, looked away for a minute and this is what i found.

started sucking her thumb one day....

then started choking on her thumb.
pretty funny.

lil' cutie pie loves her sophie the giraffe.

looking coy

not feeling too happy with mom and dad.

loves to drool...all over the place.

getting ready for a swim in the pool with her sparkly swimming suit.

getting SOOOOO big!

before

after
(she was yawning, but we like to say she was growling.)

minnie is growing like a weed.  as you can see the little bear outfit was too big the first time we put it on her, and too small the second time we tried it.  it is amazing how fast this little person grows.  it's also amazing how much our love for her grows each day.  there is something so special about babies.
