cousin love

shopping during the family christmas gift exchange
 matching cousin jammies
 more matching cousin jammies
 "sharing" toys
getting to know each other better in twinner outfits
bonding over books

as you can see, minnie and hope had lots of fun time with cousins over christmas.

the true meaning

the nativity at randy and terry's.  notice how baby Jesus is being held by joseph and the shepherd is in the cradle.  in addition to this all, one of the shepherd's is lounging on the other shepherd's lap.
 our little lamb.
the nativity at grandpa and grandma sabey's house
this time minnie was one of multiple angels.  hope was hungry so she sat this one out.

i love live nativities at christmas.  we all got to be a part of at least one.  minnie and christian were in three.  lucky!  something about kids, and adults alike, dressing up to reenact one of the world's most profound and important events makes my heart feel better.  the fact that the kids most often do something totally cute and/or historically incorrect makes live nativities that much more delightful.

the idea that our reenactments are not perfect is, in fact, the most perfect script for the celebration of our Savior's birth.  being born in a stable with animals as the backdrop.  by worldly standards, this was not an ideal situation.  the simplicity in how our Savior was born is beautiful, as is the simplicity of small children learning while participating in the scene of an event so profound and significant that it happened in the most humble of circumstances.

a special feeling welled deep within my heart as hope took on the role of the baby Jesus.  the significance of her perfect little spirit was meaningful and symbolic.  who hope is, and who she will become, is exactly who she is supposed to be.  her role in the lives of christian, minnie and i will play such an important role in our progression of learning.  she will help us become who we ought to be.  she will have to be patient with us.  she may hurt because of our inability to learn what we need to learn fast enough.  in all of this, i believe she will help us work out our salvation with our Savior.  her role is divine.  her ability to fulfill it flawless.  as she played the part of Christ in the nativities this year, my heart was filled with gratitude that unto us this child was born.
