halloween in december

flying through the sky with her tongue hanging out to give her momentum

pumpkin walk

our little pumpkin

our little pumpkin trying to figure out what we have her dressed in.

halloween night at nana and papa's

a halloween post in december?  why not?  if the stores can start putting christmas stuff out in october, i figure i can digress and post our halloween pictures in december.  minnie was lucky enough to have two costumes.  we were lucky enough that they were both free.  the pumpkin is a costume that was swede's and britta's.  katie was kind enough to add it to a bucket of hand-me-downs.  (nana decided she needed cute little pumkin p.j.'s to go under it.)  the butterfly was generously given to us by heidi and max.  heidi found it in a bin of baby clothes and let us take it.  i put minnie in the pumpkin costume 3 or 4 times in october.  i just couldn't get enough of dressing her in it.   i figured it was appropriate to put her in it for the pumpkin walk.  so i did.  i also put her in it one night when we took christian dinner up at school.  i also dressed her in it to take her on a run to visit nana at work.  the butterfly made it's appearance on halloween.  unfortunately, i couldn't get christian to dress up as a caterpillar.  wouldn't that have been great!?!?

minnie's new favorite thing

she loves to wave.
sometimes she waves to say hello.
sometimes she waves to say goodbye.
sometimes she waves when she is happy.
sometimes she waves when she is grumpy.
sometimes she waves when she is getting in to things that
she isn't supposed to be getting in to.
whenever she does it, we always love it.
and, she knows it.

hygiene

bath time is one of minnie's favorite times.

regardless of the number of bath toys we put in the tub,

she always seems to have the most fun playing with her
washrag and the little shampoo bottle.

the great outdoors

minnie has been loving her hiking backpack.
mom and dad have been loving that she loves it.

we recently purchased a bike helmet so we could all go biking.
minnie got along well with her trailer.  she slept during most of the ride.
during the two blocks of the ride she was awake for, we kept hearing,
"whooooo, wheeeeee!!!!"
i suspect that means she likes the trailer.

fall favorites

she wasn't so sure about sitting in the leaves.
but, she was willing to humor me long enough for a picture.

swinging is a new favorite.
who doesn't love being suspended in air by a few ropes attached to a tree?

she also loved playing with the box of apples we were gifted...
and eating them when we turned them into applesauce.

crossfit

christian recently started doing crossfit.
minnie was jealous of his big muscles.
so, she started her own crossfit routine.
it includes:

box jumps

burpies

sideways sit-ups

pillow bench presses

pull-ups using the stroller bar

sit-ups under the stroller

all in a days workout.

they are both getting really buff.

fashionista

two favorites:

the preppy polo

the jogging suit the she wears at least 4 times a week

she is probably the most stylish baby on the block

as of late

did i mention we moved?
well, we did.  it is a lovely little basement apartment.
we love it.  i'll have to post pics when we are a little more put together.
i'll also share a fun little story sometime soon.

until then, i thought i'd post a few recent pictures.
minnie is at a really fun age.

she is learning to pull faces,

stick her tongue out and sit in a big girl high chair at restaurants.

last sunday minnie and christian looked like they just stepped out of the 1950s.

lastly, she decided to start taking guitar lessons from her dad.
we may have a little bluegrass star on our hands.  only time will tell.

minnie's first race

minnie, christian and i ran a 5K together.
it was for the river heights apple days celebration.

uncle tyler joined us too.

minnie cried for the first little bit.  she was pretty tired.
i thought i was going to need to stop and feed her, but she pulled through.
she fell asleep at the top of the hill, right when we got to the top.
i had planned to stop and feed her at the top of that hill.
she slept the remainder of the race.
she is such a good little baby.

right after the race.  we're all coming off our race high.

turns out, tyler won a trophy for his age category.
i won a $10 gift card from the raffle.
and, we all scored ourselves some apple pie and ice cream.
this is the kind of race i can get behind for a number of reasons:
1) the entry fee was only $3
2) they allowed baby strollers
3) it was a perfect temperature
4) it started at 9:00 am
5) they had pie and ice cream after the event

hooray for race winners, inc.!

p.s. the goal was racing to finish...and we did just that.

uncle richard

minnie couldn't get enough of uncle richard's beard.

toys

minnie hasn't been very interested in her toys lately.
she would much rather spend hours with a piece of paper,
suck on a zipper, or lick the wheel of the stroller.
we are more willing to let her play with paper than zippers and stroller wheels.
oh, she also likes to make her way over to my feet and either
start sucking on my toe or the top of my flip flop.
we aren't sure where these fascinations come from.
it's kind of cute, but we have to be really careful.

i was delighted to see that she was excited about a few of her toys the other day.
i turned to look at her and saw this lovely picture:

i promise this was not staged.

this was also a cute little scene that i caught her in.
she was discovering the little piggy that her daddy bought for her
when i was pregnant with her.

i wonder if there is a toy manufacturer who could make a safe paper and zipper toy for babies.
if other babies are as excited about these items as minnie, they'd make millions.

daddy's little girl

i love watching christian and minnie.
christian is a natural with kids.
he always has been.
is it possible to be more than a natural?
if so, that is what he is with our little minnie mae.
he loves her so much.
his face lights up with he sees her, as does her's when she sees him.
i love it.
minnie isn't much of a cuddler.
she never has been.
sometimes we try and coach her along in cuddling.
it usually fails.
last sunday, when she woke up from a nap she cuddled
with her daddy for about 5 seconds.
i didn't catch the original cuddle on camera.
however, she appeased us and recreated it for about 3 seconds.
long enough for me to get a couple of shots.
christian, nana, papa and i were all elated.
turns out cuddling is a milestone at our house.

i don't think we will be quite as excited when she starts cuddling with boys she is dating.
but for now, we are going to continue to try to get her to cuddle with us.

solids

minnie started eating solids.
it took us a little longer than some to do this.
i was a little slow.
i was a little nervous to start feeding her real food.
nursing was a bit of a challenge in the beginning, so
i think i had in my head that solids would be too.
once i got over the mental challenge of it, we both did just fin.
minnie was excited and a little perplexed during her first "solid" meal.
we've only been at it for a little over a week.
during that time frame we've found that:
runny rice cereal mixed with breast milk is good
yellow squash is tolerable
and
sweet potatoes are delightful.

next weeks menu includes carrrots, peas and avocados.
we'll see what the reviews are at the end of the week.

6 months

minnie was so excited to turn 6 months old!

to celebrate, i went biking

and we all went fishing

as you can tell by minnie's expressions,
it was a lovely day!

cache county fair

summer isn't summer without the cache county fair.
it is small town america at it's finest.
during the fair christian shared his two new life goals with me:
1) learn to make pickles and enter them in the fair.
2) join a mounted posse

while we were at the rodeo,
and minnie was home with nana and papa,
we decided that we would let her participate in mutton bustin' if she wants to.

as of late...

minnie has been striking some awesome poses,

holding things with her feet,

making some awesome messes,

and following in her daddy's footsteps.

*disclaimer:  she hasn't really been drinking "prune juice", as christian calls it.
however, she LOVED the bottle.  she got pretty upset when we took it away from her.

sabey family reunion

we spent some time in colorado this summer.
first up, we had the sabey family reunion.
it was in winter park.
all mel and sandy's grandkid's were there.
we have everyone but athena pictured below.
she wasn't having anything to do with the camera.

sandy watched minnie while christian went back to utah to take his prelim tests and i attended a work event.
timing couldn't have worked out better.  minnie had so much fun with her grandma!

christian got together with a few of his high school wrestling buddies.
it was fun to hear them tell stories of the "good old days".
