the true meaning

the nativity at randy and terry's.  notice how baby Jesus is being held by joseph and the shepherd is in the cradle.  in addition to this all, one of the shepherd's is lounging on the other shepherd's lap.
 our little lamb.
the nativity at grandpa and grandma sabey's house
this time minnie was one of multiple angels.  hope was hungry so she sat this one out.

i love live nativities at christmas.  we all got to be a part of at least one.  minnie and christian were in three.  lucky!  something about kids, and adults alike, dressing up to reenact one of the world's most profound and important events makes my heart feel better.  the fact that the kids most often do something totally cute and/or historically incorrect makes live nativities that much more delightful.

the idea that our reenactments are not perfect is, in fact, the most perfect script for the celebration of our Savior's birth.  being born in a stable with animals as the backdrop.  by worldly standards, this was not an ideal situation.  the simplicity in how our Savior was born is beautiful, as is the simplicity of small children learning while participating in the scene of an event so profound and significant that it happened in the most humble of circumstances.

a special feeling welled deep within my heart as hope took on the role of the baby Jesus.  the significance of her perfect little spirit was meaningful and symbolic.  who hope is, and who she will become, is exactly who she is supposed to be.  her role in the lives of christian, minnie and i will play such an important role in our progression of learning.  she will help us become who we ought to be.  she will have to be patient with us.  she may hurt because of our inability to learn what we need to learn fast enough.  in all of this, i believe she will help us work out our salvation with our Savior.  her role is divine.  her ability to fulfill it flawless.  as she played the part of Christ in the nativities this year, my heart was filled with gratitude that unto us this child was born.

christmas jammies

who doesn't love a great pair of christmas jammies?  grandma skillfully selects beautiful matching jammies each year for everyone at her house.  it's so fun to see everyone all dressed up in their pajama glory.

christmas village

cousin besties wishing they could climb in the window scenes

exploring

oh what fun it was to go to the ogden christmas village.  we went with my parents and pete and katie's clan to see the lights, ride a little train and freeze our buns off.  it was great fun to watch the kids get excited about the lights and scenes.  the night was full of nostalgic memories for me because we used to go to the christmas village when i was young.

all dressed up

i know it is february...but i am still going to post pictures of the girl's christmas dresses.  i'm just now catching my breath from our crazy january, and catching up from it in february.  documenting the last two months is going to happen because i want it to.  i wish i could take credit for the beautiful sparkly and plaid dresses the girls looked so cute in for christmas.  but, alas, as usual my mom gets the credit for finding and giving the girls their cute little outfits.  she loves to do it and we are grateful for it.

more importantly than how cute they looked all dressed up for christmas, was the spirit we felt this holiday season.  having a sweet little baby, and a fun toddler over the holidays makes it so much more special.  minnie loved learning about mary, joseph and the  baby Jesus.  and, hope brought a spirit in to our home that no other child could.  as you'll see in more posts to come, we loved christmas.  being together as a family and with our extended family was so heartwarming.

gingerbread houses

last year we started the tradition of decorating a gingerbread house.  christian and i had a great time decorating while nana and papa entertained the girls.

as the pictures above display, it was an adventure-filled evening.  special thanks to papa for his construction expertise.  we would have been in trouble with the roof had he not been there to help get it in place.

minnie's many shoes

minnie has inherited the love of shoes from her great grandma meacham, and her nana.  most recently, she has been very intrigued with shoes that, albeit stylish, don't fit. she likes shoes that are both, too big....

and, too small...
the shoes are cute enough that i can't really blame her.
